It’s official: the Jimny Gathering is coming to Mpumalanga. Suzuki Auto South Africa has confirmed that the third edition of the world’s largest Suzuki Jimny gathering will run from 23 to 26 September 2027 at Firefly Farm on Klipkoppie Dam, about 15 minutes outside White River — trading the Garden Route for the Lowveld and setting the stage for yet another world-record attempt.

Tickets and camping went on sale with the announcement, so here is everything confirmed so far: the dates, the venue, what the weekend looks like, how to get there from either side of the country, and how to get your Jimny trail-ready before you point it at the escarpment.

What is the Jimny Gathering?

The Jimny Gathering is Suzuki South Africa’s biennial festival for Jimny owners — four days of camping, marked 4×4 trails, live music and family entertainment, now officially recognised as the largest gathering of Suzuki Jimny owners anywhere in the world. It only works because South Africa has one of the densest Jimny populations on earth: more than 20 000 have been sold locally since 2008, and a startling number of them show up.

Each edition so far has put a Guinness World Records title in the bag. The inaugural 2023 gathering in Clarens drew almost 800 Jimnys and set the record for the most vehicles switching on their headlights simultaneously — 787 of them inside the five-second window. The 2025 edition at Louvain Guest Farm near Oudtshoorn went bigger: 1 127 Jimnys, and a new record for the most car doors closed simultaneously, with 1 838 doors slamming shut in unison. If you have ever wondered what that many Jimnys in one field looks like, our Jimny events and meet-ups guide covers the scene year-round.

Jimny Gathering 2027 dates: 23–26 September

The 2027 gathering runs Thursday 23 to Sunday 26 September. As with both previous editions, it wraps around the Heritage Day weekend — and in 2027 Heritage Day lands on the Friday, so most working owners only need a single day of leave to make all four days. Expect the trails and family programme during the day and the social programme after dark.

The venue: Firefly Farm at Klipkoppie Dam, White River

After Clarens in the Free State (2023) and the Garden Route (2025), the Gathering moves to the Lowveld. Firefly Farm sits on Klipkoppie Dam — a spot better known to bass and carp anglers — roughly 15 minutes outside White River and about half an hour from Mbombela (Nelspruit). It is classic Mpumalanga: granite koppies, pine plantations and big-sky farmland, with the Kruger National Park’s south-western gates and the Panorama Route within day-trip range.

Camping and glamping options are available on the farm itself, and for those who prefer a bed and a proper shower, White River and Mbombela have a deep pool of lodges and guesthouses — though with over a thousand Jimnys expected, the nearby ones will not stay available for long.

What’s on: trails, music and a silent disco

Suzuki has confirmed the broad shape of the weekend: a welcoming ceremony and silent disco to open, marked 4×4 trails through the surrounding region during the day, and the Suzuki Safari Town Music Festival in White River — open to the whole family, not just ticketed owners. Comedian and long-time Jimny owner Schalk Bezuidenhout returns as host.

The trail routes will range from accessible gravel drives to more technical terrain for drivers who want to work for it. If your low-range technique is rusty, our Jimny off-road technique guide is the pre-trip refresher, and the recovery gear essentials list covers what should live in the boot before you join a convoy.

The 2027 world-record attempt

Suzuki has confirmed a record attempt is planned for 2027 but has not said what it will be — only that details will be announced closer to the event and that every Jimny attending will be able to take part. Given the headlight record of 2023 and the door-slam record of 2025, the speculation in owner groups is already half the fun. We will update this guide the moment the attempt is announced.

Tickets, prices and camping

Tickets and camping bookings opened with the announcement at jimnygathering.co.za, which routes through the Howler booking platform. Current pricing for entry, camping and glamping is published there — and if the 2025 edition is any guide, the campsites closest to the festival area are the first to go. Book the accommodation before you plan the trails.

One clever addition for 2027: Gariep Forever Resort is offering free overnight camping to Jimny owners travelling from the western half of the country, on 22, 23, 26 and 27 September — 108 campsites per night, up to two Jimnys per site. It turns the long Cape-to-Lowveld haul into a proper two-day convoy with a built-in halfway stop. Bookings open on 1 February 2027 and work on a first-come-first-served basis.

Getting there

From Gauteng, White River is an easy run of around four hours via the N4 — expect the convoy spotting to start well before Machadodorp. From the Western Cape it is a genuine road trip, which is exactly what the free Gariep stopover is designed for. Flying in for the festival only? Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport is a short drive from the venue.

Make a Lowveld week of it

This is the first Gathering held on the doorstep of the Kruger National Park, and it would be a waste to drive all that way for the weekend alone. The park’s south-western gates are within an hour of White River, the Panorama Route — God’s Window, Bourke’s Luck Potholes, the Blyde River Canyon — is in comfortable day-trip range, and the forestry gravel around Sabie and Graskop is some of the best relaxed Jimny touring in the country. If you are building up to bigger trips, our weekend warrior build guide shows how far a lightly-prepped Jimny can take you.

Get your Jimny ready

A year’s notice is a luxury — use it. Get the basics squared away with the service schedule guide (a 1 500 km round trip plus trail days is exactly when deferred maintenance bites), check whether your rubber is up to red-clay forestry tracks with our Jimny tyre guide, and pack sensible recovery kit. Not an owner yet but tempted? The South African Jimny buying guide will get you into the right one before September 2027 — there is no better first trip than this.

Jimny Gathering 2027 FAQ

Is there a Jimny Gathering in 2026?

No. The Gathering is a biennial event — 2023 in Clarens, 2025 near Oudtshoorn — so the next edition is 23–26 September 2027 in Mpumalanga. If you are searching for a 2026 date, this is the one to book.

Where exactly is the 2027 venue?

Firefly Farm, on Klipkoppie Dam, roughly 15 minutes outside White River and about 30 minutes from Mbombela (Nelspruit) in Mpumalanga.

Do I need to own a Jimny to attend?

The gathering itself is built around Jimny owners — and every generation counts, from the latest five-door back to SJs, Samurais and LJs. The Suzuki Safari Town Music Festival in White River, however, is open to the whole family and the general public.

How many Jimnys will be there?

The 2025 edition drew 1 127 Jimnys, and with another record attempt planned for 2027, the organisers will be aiming higher still.

Where do I buy Jimny Gathering 2027 tickets?

Only through the official site, jimnygathering.co.za, which handles tickets, camping and glamping bookings via Howler.

We’ll keep this guide updated as Suzuki confirms the record attempt, festival line-up and trail list — the announcement was first reported by TimesLIVE Motoring. Going to be there?
