Common Problems by Generation
JB74
Timing chain rattle on cold start is the main known issue. AC can struggle in hot climates. Software updates fix most niggles.
JB23
Head gaskets and sill/arch rust on high-mileage examples. Turbo models can suffer boost leaks.
SJ / Older Jimnys
Body rust is the primary killer. Seized brakes, ageing rubber and electrical gremlins — all fixable cheaply.

How often should I service my Suzuki Jimny?
For normal road use, follow Suzuki’s 10,000 km annual service intervals. Off-road or dusty use: reduce oil changes to every 5,000 km.
What oil does the JB74 take?
5W-30 fully synthetic. Capacity approximately 3.3 litres with filter. Always verify with your regional owner’s manual.
Is the JB74 timing chain a known problem?
Rattle on cold start has been reported on some early JB74 units. Suzuki has issued revised parts. Ensure any applicable warranty work is complete.
